The Civil War service of Edmund Rice is documented in the collection, which remains open for materials pertaining to this class of 1860 alumnus. Included is correspondence, 1910-1912, between Rice's descendants and William Arba Ellis, Norwich historian, who was compiling biographical sketches for his three-volume history of Norwich. Drafts of Edmund Rice's biographical sketch are also included. There are papers relating to the death of Edmund Rice, 1906. Copies of information within Edmund Rice's Medal of Honor and Pension files from the National Archives can also be found in the collection. Also included are excerpts on the life and career of Edmund Rice from books and articles, newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous biographical and military information. There are also copies of information compiled by Steven J. Nitch and presented to the Archives in 1994.
